World Map

Going to have a separate thread for the world map from now on, to make it easier to track map updates and just what exactly has been added to the map (at least as far as i'm aware)

The annotated world map can be found here.

This will be periodically updated, so check here for updates. This map is dated Thursday 24th May.

Please download the map for storage instead of accessing it repeatedly. The file is over 15MB in size, and excessive access of the online map will push us towards the site's transfer limits.

Also taking ideas for names for all the different regions/towns we have discovered!

Map Icons

Powered Rail
Point is connected to the world railway system.

Money
Point has a selection of shops for buying/selling goods.
NOTE: Points with limited shops, for example the Spawn Cottage which allows purchases of a minecart for 1 silver are not given this map icon.

Bed
Point has a tavern. Taverns are like Hotels. Players can come and claim a room as their own for as long as they like (simply add your name to the sign above your room door, and remove it once you leave). Rooms have beds, chest storage and crafting facilities (either in the bedroom, or in a common area)

Sunday 22nd January

Exploration:
  • Added a sizable new area to the map in an arc between the Drakesmark & King Stryker's Fury in The Esterlands.
  • Added a smaller exploration area to the map between the drakesmark and The Town of Agyrion.
  • Various map holes are now in need of filling.
Names
  • The Esterlands: Scar Woods (Region), Crater Town (Village)
Builds
  • The Drakesmark: Added The Windmill (Ember Garden), The Pegasus (At Sea) & The Lighthouse (Unnamed Woods).
  • West of The Drakesmark: Added The Sunken Mines (At Sea).
  • East of The Drakesmark: Added The Lavaflow Mines (Unnamed Island)
  • The Esterlands: Added the Scar Mines (Scar Woods; Contains Mineshaft), Crater Town Mineshaft (Unnamed Continent)
  • The Homelands: Added The Water Mines (Nr. Blue Gardens), Atlantis (The Sapphire Sea)
Improvements:
  • The railways heading West from The Vale to Needle Island & NPC Village are now powered and fully operational. The parallel track to the Eyrie which currently goes only as far as NPC Vilalge is also powered until its terminus. All green lines indicating railways are now fully operational!

Would like to point out I'm reasonsible for the Crater in Crater town, it was the product of one of my more destuctive events

And Atlantis? You so nicked that idea off me :P

I was wondering Hal :P

Oddly enough the blocks were on the ground to be looted when i visited too, so they must have got put into stasis after you made a quick exit :p

Thursday 26th January
  • Added *SUBSTANTIAL* landmass and new buildings to Dragonstone, and refurbished the citadel so it doesn't look gay on the map.
  • Added "Outpost H (Halathor)" to map (near Spawn Dunes)
  • Added Cheeseball's Manor (Cheeseball101) to map (High Keeps)

Saturday 25th February

It's been ages since the last published map update, but highlights include:
  1. Dragonstone has been SUBSTANTIALLY expanded.
  2. Railway connections increased. Including Direct powered rail from The Vale to Dragonstone, which will be another major rail hub in due time.
  3. More landmass on the eastern side of the map
  4. Added Spleef Dome to PvP area

Friday 2nd March

Split the map into various realms to help with both using the finished map, and working with it in photoshop. See the Minecraft Chat thread for specifics.

Also, It seems that map generation may now be broken until further notice - I think the map generator is using the old landscape files. Newly explored land only gets written to the new landscape file format, so end result is every map until further notice will be identical to the world as it looked prior to 1.2 release. Bah.

Tuesday 6th March

Map generation is working again since 1.2 broke it (due to new world file format not being used to generate map files).

Lots of changes/additions to the map. I'll detail those i remember & those i'm doing as i prepare this next map:


General Changes
  • Region Names - All region names have have font sized increased from 24pt to 20pt and the font changed to match kingdoms (Lucida Handwriting) which i think looks loads better cosmetically, and makes region names easier to spot/read.
  • Territory/Kingdom Names - Font sized increased from 72pt to 100pt to make them stand out more (and even more so from the increased font sizes for other text)
  • Town Names - Have increased in size and changed to the new font to make them stand out better and look cooler. Towns without names yet have just been named after the greek alphabet for now. (It's hard to manage 20 things called "NPC Village").
  • The Stronghold - Has had it's text changed to be identical to a Region, making it quite prominent on the map.
  • Sea Regions - Have had their font sized increased to make them stand out more, since sea regions are MUCH larger than land regions.
  • Labels - A lot of the labels for regions, kingdoms etc have moved to fit in a bit better where font size has been increased, or where territory has been explored.

Territory Changes
  • The Drakesmark - Named new regions (The Lilyponds, The Stepstones). Added outpost (Casterly Rock). Discovered the first of four Jungles just beyond the map boundaries to the north.
  • The Sunset Lands - One of the new territories available for claiming as a kingdom. New land has been explored and includes a large and impressive Jungle (the second of four currently known). It's a fairly small continent, so additional lands will be added to it as the map is explored. Borders increased to match latest exploration.
  • The Woodland Realm - Another one of the new territories available to be claimed as a kingdom. All borders on this one are fully mapped out (though minor increases to territory may be negotiable). Named more regions (The Elder Forest, The Silent Forest & The Grim Forest)
  • Hyrule (formerly: The Esterlands) - Kingdom founded by Halathor. Additional Regions named (The Lost Woods, Gerudo Desert, Faron Woods, Dragon Roost, Death Mountain, Serpent Island. Borders expanded to match new exploration.
  • The Craterlands - New map exploration, and borders expanded to match.
  • The Wetlands - Another one of the new territories. Further map and border exploration. Named regions (The Wild Forest, The Spell Swamps).
  • The Riverlands - A brand new territory created in todays map, another area ready to be claimed as a kingdom. This is a decent sized area with a number of islands and includes a Jungle (the third of 4 known Jungles on the map). Additional lands may be granted to the East over time, However these are currently beyond the map boundaries. Named Regions (The Ghost Fields, Kangaroo Island)
  • Kingdom of Soronthil - Recently established by Madrin. Borders are still a work in progress, so may gradually expand over time to the South & West.
  • The Southerlands - Is now just defined as the lands beyond Soronthil.
  • Harrenhal - A City state which is currently being built by myself and Hal, and therefore under joint ownership. This will be a (epic) Castle and town over time. Guests are of course welcome (there is a shitload of space for guest rooms!). The fourth and final currently known Jungle is just West of its borders.
Homelands Changes

This brings us to the Homelands, which being the big bastard that it is, it's probably easier to list changes in its own independant bullet points:
  • Orthanc has been increased in height to the new sky limit.
  • The Vale has effectively become it's own region with font to match.
  • The Village in New Zealand has been renamed Hobbiton.
  • To the North, named new regions (The Rose Gardens, The Garden of Harmony, The Razor Mountains, The Demon's Lair, The Streams of Memory)
  • To the East, named new regions (The Great Forest, The White Woods)
  • To the South & West, named new regions (The Long Lake, The Godswood)
