correction on my last - trading post is semi-available.
it's being opened to random players to facilitate testing.

Will most probably pick up this game in a week or so to be able to play in less crowded areas. Wasn't intrested at all in the beginning(not a fan of GW), but I've watched some gameplay videos and it looks like it could entertain me for a while. Have been pretty sick of LOTRO recently, so I need something that makes the days go by.
Do you still mix two classes, like in GW, or can you just pick one? Noticed that you apparently only get five character slots for eight classes, so it seemed like they're going Age of Conan on us.
If(when) I have the game I'll update with my character names! Will probably name one Bjoras just to keep that name there as well.

Re: Rangers Of Ascalon [RoA]
just one class per character.
5 free char slots, can buy more through the store. whether you use real money to buy gems, or grind ingame cash to exchange for the gems, is a personal choice. no idea on what cap there may be on char slots.
playing in busy areas isn't necessarily a bad thing in GW2 - some of the dynamic events are specifically group oriented, so running around with a lot of others around makes these more achievable. also, no one specifically 'taps' a mob - everyone who jumps on it gets credit for it as long as they hit it enough, and everyone gets individual loot. unlike lotro, there's no fighting to kill boars, in the hopes of getting 10 boar hoofs. instead, quests (or more accurately, heart events) give several options on how to complete them and do not give a specific count of how many is needed - some actions will contribute more to the progress bar than others, but it gives more flexibility in how to complete them. a lot of the levelling is also dependent on dynamic events - heart events alone do not give enough xp to keep up.

How is this any different to any other MMO?Bjoras wrote:Noticed that you apparently only get five character slots for eight classes, so it seemed like they're going Age of Conan on us.
Lotro had 7 classes at release and you were only given 5 character slots, 9 classes with Moria (although Moria box expansion did give you 2 extra character slots for a total of 7, still not enough)
Original GW gave you 5 slots (iirc) for 6 classes (gained an extra slot per an additional campaign, but additional campaigns added 2 new classes each time)
WoW doesn't give you enough, Rift doesn't, don't think Swtor does
My point is, that its pretty common for an MMO to have more classes available than initial character slots. Plus nearly every MMO offers you the chance to buy more character slots (if you really have a severe case of altitis)
Re: Rangers Of Ascalon [RoA]
In WoW you can create 10 characters on each server if you wish. Rift had six per sever(iirc) and LOTRO has the same system. Did I get two extra slots with LOTROs golden edition though? I remember always having one of each class. ._o
Haven't played GW in a long time, but at least you could mix/match the classes there, so you didnt miss out on too much if you had one slot too little. In GW2 you get five and that's it. No separate characters on other servers, as I understood it.
Anyways, I went out and bought the game. Installing atm...
