LotRO: Free-to-Play

Post by Madrin » Fri Jun 04, 2010 3:36 pm

During the last couple of days it has been announced that LotR:O is going to be a free-to-play game. This means everybody can play the game for free but with restrictions, when you buy your first batch of Turbine points you'll be promoted to premium member and if you pay the monthly fee you'll get VIP without any restrictions. Life-Time subscribers will get automatically VIP and get 500 free Turbine Points a month. More info is still to be released.

There is also going to be a beta whom you can sign up for on the lotro.com site.
At your service, and your family's!

The free points can be used to get stuff from the store, and also to get free pots, so its certainly not rubbish ^^

Level cap won't go up until the next paid expansion (Rohan?) which has likely been delayed due to the F2P announcement.

And no new tools or other recipes that i've heard of, although its possible they may revamp crafting for one of the other professions like they did to cooks and jewellers with v3 release.

Also believe I read that those who subscribe with paid time from 30th june to the release of the F2P-date will get VIP+500 points/month. Those with lifetime subscription was gonna get some other things as well.

Found it;
From the FAQ
I already subscribe to LOTRO. Is there any benefit to staying a subscriber?

Of course! Once the game goes live you’ll keep all your current privileges, and also accrue 500 free Turbine Points per month to spend as you wish. We also have a set of Loyalty Reward Special Offers just for our veteran players – as long as you maintain your subscription in good standing you may be eligible for up to 3,000 points. If you stay active over the summer you will also earn an additional bonus of 500 Turbine Points per month until launch! For more details see the Loyalty Reward Special Offer Terms & Conditions for full details.
